Silicon Carbide (SiC) is produced in an electric furnace at temperatures in excess of 2200 degrees C. SiC is produced by fusing coke and high purity silica sand. The result is the formation of SiC crystals which are very hard. SiC also has a very high thermal conductivity and is very strong at elevated temperatures.

We would like to Thank everyone that has purchased loose abrasive to date and share information regarding a packaging fee that we have added recently on our loose abrasives.

We have made the decision to repackage our loose abrasive to our out-of-town customers in either 1, 3, or 5 gallon plastic pails with sealed lids.  This is in order to insure a safe delivery via UPS.  We had previously packaged this material in heavy paper bags designed specifically for abrasives.  However, the many steps a normal package takes in route to you, creates many opportunities for failure in a bag/box packaging combination.

We have pails on order and expect them to be delivered within the next few days.  Until we receive those, orders will be held.  However, orders placed prior to this announcement will be shipped using our traditonal packaging with safe guards put in place to insure delivery at the price quoted.
